Information for guardians
Here you can find advice and information about music studies.
Music lessons during elementary school hours
In the Fjarðabyggð Music Schools, it is customary for students of the Music School to attend music lessons during the school hours of the primary schools. This is done in consultation with all parties, music teachers, music students, guardians and teachers of the primary schools. The idea is that students of the schools in Fjarðabyggð can complete their studies during traditional school hours, as both school types teach according to the National Curriculum published by the Ministry of Education. This is not a matter of course, but with good cooperation from all parties, this arrangement works well for the most part. Of course, some conflicts can arise, but we always try to resolve them through open communication and understanding between all parties.
The most important thing about this arrangement is that if the guardians of the music students agree to this, then the responsibility is placed on their shoulders to carefully monitor which classes in the elementary school their children attend music classes. It is the guardians' responsibility to make sure that the elementary school students complete their studies and work on what they may have missed when they attend music classes. However, it must not be forgotten that the students are truly studying at the Music School and learning many things there that can strengthen them as elementary school students.
For many years, the Music Schools in Fjarðabyggð, now known as the Fjarðabyggð Music School, have made so-called "rolling tables" so that students were never in music lessons at the same time. For many, this worked well, but for many, it didn't. This meant that guardians had a hard time knowing which lessons their children went to for music lessons, and for many students, this was a big problem because they had a hard time keeping track of their lessons. Now, the arrangement has been implemented so that students at the Music School have fixed lessons, and as a result, it is no longer a problem for guardians to know where they need to monitor their progress.

Let's all work together.
Home exercises
Music education is based on students learning technique and music in music classes with their teacher and then having to practice at home regularly.

Sleep need
More students than ever are arriving at school late, tired and unrested. This is especially true for students who have a television and/or computer in their rooms. Parents are often unaware that their children are awake long after they go to bed.
