Children and parents who need it should have barrier-free access to appropriate integrated services. Integrated services to promote children’s well-being are organised and continuous, with the aim of creating an overall perspective and framework for the service systems that matter most to children’s well-being.

All children and parents should have access to a contact person for children’s well-being services as needed. The contact person’s primary role is to provide information, assist parents and children, and support the integration of services at the first level in accordance with the wishes of the parents and/or child. Parents and children can contact the contact person directly or submit a request through the Akureyri Municipality Service Portal 

Primary School Procedures in Uncertain Road and Weather Conditions

1.       As a general rule, preschools and primary schools remain open unless the police advise people not to travel.

2.      If classes are cancelled, the School Division will notify RÚV and Bylgjan by 7:00 a.m.

3.       All schools must post a notice on their website when weather and road conditions are uncertain or classes are cancelled. Schools must also send the same notice through Mentor.

4.       In uncertain conditions that may vary between neighbourhoods, it is always up to parents/guardians to decide whether they feel confident sending their children to school and to accompany students in grades 1–7 into the school.

 5.       If classes have not been cancelled, staff will be present at all schools during the advertised school hours. Children who come to school will not be sent home before the school day ends.

The school places great emphasis on students eating healthy, nutritious food. The school runs a cafeteria where students can buy hot meals at lunchtime, and we strongly encourage parents to make use of this service.
